Summary[]
Treasure hunters are searching for the Santa Rosa, a sunken galleon, off the coast of Miami. Their radar shows an aberration on the sea floor - a crevice 65 feet deep.. Hoping to find the ship and its gold, two scuba divers jump into the water and approach the site.
Their metal detector starts to crackle and they search through the the sand, only to find a cleaver. Nearby, they notice a black garbage bag and open it. As body parts start to emerge, they freak out and swim back to the surface. Many more black bags are seen in the area, some with bones lying next to them.
That night, when Dexter Morgan arrives back to his apartment, Debra is excitedly waiting for him. She pulls him into the bedroom where a newscaster on TV is reporting the underwater graveyard. The man says that a least thirty bags have been found so far, but around-the-clock salvage efforts are still underway. Dexter stares at the television, with his heart racing. He places his hand on his chest to feel the pounding.
Dexter learns from Vince Masuka that the unknown killer has been labeled "The Bay Harbor Butcher” by the press, due to the location of the dump site and because the bodies had been dismembered.
