Second Mom:

Second Mom: Friend of Teddy's Mom

Second Mom is a character in Season Five of the Showtime series DEXTER.

She and her child attend the same playgroup as does Dexter and Harrison Morgan.

Summary[]

Dexter is with a group of mothers and their babies in a park, and Harrison is playing with the other kids. Dexter is still worried about his son growing up to be like him, after witnessing his mother's murder.

When Teddy, a young boy, starts crying, his mother asks, “Sweetheart, what’s wrong?” as she picks him up. A second mom notices a small scratch on Teddy’s cheek. It reminds Dexter of the cuts he makes during his kill rituals. The playgroup director closes out the session and takes Teddy’s mom and her son off to the side to apply a band-aid. The scratched child points an accusing finger at Harrison and Teddy’s mother frowns at Harrison.

Dexter scoops up Harrison and beats a hasty retreat, thinking, “But I use a scalpel. All you have are your fingers...wiped clean. Not even a year old, you're already destroying evidence. And having to flee the scene of the crime.”

On another day, is Dexter back at the park and overhears the two mothers talking about Harrison.

Teddy’s Mom: “I just know he's the one who scratched Teddy. He was right next to him."
Second Mom: “Did you read about what happened to his mother?”
Teddy’s Mom: “That boy will never be the same.”

They realize that Dexter is listening when he tells them that there's nothing wrong with his son.

As Dexter puts Harrison into his car seat, he says, “I'm sorry for ever thinking the worst, Harrison. You'll always be my son. Whatever we have to face, we'll face together, okay?” Just then, Harrison reaches up and scratches his father's cheek.
