A revival of Dexter was announced by Showtime on 14 October 2020[1]. Production began in early 2021 ahead of a fall premiere.

The ten-episode run will bring back both Michael C. Hall and original showrunner Clyde Phillips, who exited the series after Season Four.

Phillips states that this revival isn't intended to act as Season 9; instead, it will allow showrunners "to write a second finale." While Phillips says this is a chance to correct some aspects of Dexter's final episode, showrunners don't plan on retconning the original Season 8 finale.

Details

Set ten years after Dexter Morgan went missing in the eye of Hurricane Laura, the revival sees the character now living under an assumed name in a world away from Miami. The ending of the show will have no resemblance to the original finale. [2]

“Dexter” is being filmed in Massachusetts, primarily west of I-495 in local towns and cities including Gardner, Lancaster, Sterling, and Worcester. [3] Production began in February 2021 and the setting is upstate New York.[4]

Note: Actors categories are subject to change when episodes are released.

Main Cast

  • Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan
  • Clancy Brown as Kurt Caldwell - the main villain. He's described as the "unofficial mayor of the small town of Iron Lake. He’s realized the American dream by going from driving big rigs, just like his father did, to now owning several trucks and the local truck stop. Powerful, generous, loved by everyone – he’s a true man of the people. If he’s got your back, consider yourself blessed. But should you cross Kurt, or hurt anyone that he cares for, God help you."
  • Julia Jones as Angela Bishop, the first Native American Chief of Police in her town in upstate New York
  • Alano Miller as Logan, a sergeant for the Iron Lake Police Department and the assistant wrestling coach for the local high school.
  • Johnny Sequoyah as Audrey, Bishop’s brash and opinionated teenage daughter

Recurring Cast

  • Michael Cyril Creighton as Fred Jr., the congenial owner of Fred’s Fish & Game, a shop he inherited from his father. He has grown up in Iron Lake and is a regular fixture around town that everybody knows and loves, whether it's line dancing at the local tavern or singing in the choir. He’s married to Brian, the pastor of the small congregational church in town. He will appear in seven episodes.[5]
  • David Magidoff as Teddy Reed, the new guy, who has been a cop in Iron Lake for two and a half weeks. Good-natured, quirky, hardworking, eager to please; and a little scared of his boss, Police Chief Angela Bishop. At first glance, he seems timid and inexperienced, but when the rubber hits the road, he’s a dependable badass…in his own way.[6]
  • Jamie Chung as Molly, a famous true-crime podcaster from Los Angeles [7]
  • Oscar Wahlberg as Zach, the captain of the Iron Lake High School wrestling team. He’s a bit of a bully, but generally the go-to-guy to have a good time. He’s the gateway to the in-crowd, which includes the daughter of the chief of police.[8]
  • Katy Sullivan as Esther, the dispatcher at the Iron Lake Police Station [9]
  • Benjamin Breault
