Muriel Pruitt is a character in Season Three of the Showtime series DEXTER.

She was a college student who was murdered by Fred Bowman.

Dexter is at home vetting a new target. Fred Bowman, a.k.a. Freebo. Kills two college girls and skates on a state police screw-up, otherwise known as Florida's "catch and release" program. He does the deed, gets away with murder, and falls off the radar. Everyone's radar but mine.

A photo of Harry catches his eye. You got a birthday coming up, Dad! What to get a man who had everything? How about Freebo?

Dexter prepares a kill room in an empty house and sets up photos of Freebo’s two victims - Brenda Keppinger and Muriel Pruitt. However, instead of killing Freebo, he ends up killing Oscar Prado during a struggle. Dexter quickly takes down the kill room and begins to search for Freebo, who is now missing.

Dexter discovers that Freebo is hiding out in Teegan Campbell's house. He sets up a kill room in the garage and displays the photos of Teegan, Brenda, and Muriel. He also hangs up a photo of Oscar Prado. At this point, Dexter believes that Teegan is Freebo's third victim.

Freebo wakes up bound in plastic. Terrified, he asks, "Oh, God. What the hell is this?!" Dexter answers, "Show and Tell. It's been so long since you killed them, I was afraid you'd... forgotten. Though I'm sure Teegan is fresh in your mind." He turns Freebo's head toward Teegan's photo. Freebo denies that he killed Teegan, then curses when Dexter slices his cheek.

Dexter continues his accusations. "You killed those girls in the Everglades and you got away with it on a bad warrant. I love those. And then Teegan came along. First, you drained her of her self-respect and hope. Then last Sunday, you choked the life out of her."

Meanwhile, Miguel Prado is prowling through the house with a gun, looking for Freebo.

Freebo, hyperventilating, "No, last Sunday... I was gettin' high with -- it was Cheri or... Carrie. She's at -- she's at -- she's at Alpha Phi-" Dexter stuffs cotton into Freebo's mouth to silence him. He leans close to Freebo's face and makes intimidating remarks about life and death. He then stabs a bayonet into Freebo's neck.

Miguel catches Dexter leaving the garage holding the bloody bayonet. Dexter admits that he killed Freebo but claims it was in self-defense. Miguel thanks Dexter for doing what he couldn't.

  • The term "catch and release" usually refers to fishing, or the practice of releasing a migrant to the community while he or she awaits hearings in immigration court.
