Iron Lake Tavern
Iron Lake Tavern is a location in the Showtime special event series Dexter: New Blood.
It’s a place that offers food and alcohol to patrons in Iron Lake, N.Y.
Summary[]
Dexter is standing outside the Iron Lake Tavern, waiting for Angela, who finally runs up. Inside, several patrons are line-dancing to the music. Angela spots the police dispatcher and remarks, “Esther never misses a chance to break out that rhinestone skirt.”
Dexter heads to the bar for drinks, briefly encountering Ramon. Tess Silvera, the bartender, teases “Jim” because he’s so predictable what he orders. When Dexter says to put it on his tab, Tess tells him that Matt Caldwell is buying everyone a round. Dexter looks over at Matt who pounds the table and repeatedly shouts, “Jim! Jim! Jim!” as his friends join in. Dexter smirks and tells Tess to put his drinks on his own tab, anyway.
Angela and Dexter watch a rowdy Matt drinking heavily with his friends. Since Matt had earlier tried to buy a rifle but was flagged, Angela says, “The last thing that guy needs is more liquor. Or more firepower. You know the messed-up part? The FBI gets backed up and half the flags clear automatically. People fall through the cracks all the time.” To avoid the subject, Dexter suggests, “You're off the clock. Let's not talk about work. Let's dance. Can't let Esther and Alan show us up.” They join the other dancers.
A bit later, Angela leaves Dexter alone at the table while she goes to the bar. Matt comes over and invites “Jim” to a party at his dad’s house the next day. Dexter says dismissively, “I’ll see.” Matt then suggests that they leave the tavern so Dexter can open up the shop and give him the gun so he can hunt in the morning. However, “Jim” says that he must wait until his background clears, but “his buds will be really impressed with the size of his gun.” He gives Matt a smug smile as Matt glares at him in anger. Abruptly, Matt breaks into laughter and calls Dexter an ”Eagle Scout.” He advises “Jim” to come to his party anyway to have a good time, but not to bring his cop girlfriend because there will be a lot of “red flags” there.
While Angela is at the bar, she overhears an unknown young woman ask Tess, the bartender, “How much is a plain burger, without cheese or anything? What if I don't get fries?” Realizing that she has little money, Angela tells Tess to put the burger and fries on her tab. This surprises the girl, later known as Lily, and she thanks Angela. Lily confirms that she’s not from Iron Lake and will be taking the first bus out the next day, thus needing to make sure she has the fare. Concerned about the area’s missing girls, Angela gives Lily some money and tells her about the shelter down the road, which is run by Desiree.
When Angela returns to her table, Dexter asks about the girl she was talking to. Angela says, “Lost kid. My brand of community outreach. Besides, who checks my petty cash vouchers? Mm, that'd be me.” Dexter says, “That was kind of you.”
Angela notices on her smart phone doorbell app that her daughter has arrived home with too many friends. She’s states that she’s glad they didn’t have the app when they were younger, and Dexter agrees (for his special reasons). They kiss and Angela heads home to deal with her daughter.
Dexter soon leaves, inhaling the cold night air. He walks to his truck, unaware that he’s being watched by a shadowy figure.

- Iron Lake Tavern was filmed at two locations. West End Pub in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts was the exterior and the interior was Bull Run Restaurant in Shirley, Massachusetts.
