Horses are characters in Season Six of the Showtime series DEXTER.

They are used by the Doomsday Killer to create The Four Horsemen tableau.

Summary[]

Nathan Roberts is trying to escape from Santa Maria de Loreto when a horse that’s being kept inside the church startles him and rears up. Nathan falls to the floor as Travis Marshall appears and forces him into another room. Nathan cowers, begging for forgiveness at the feet of Travis.

Later, four horses are traveling down a Miami street, each with an apparent rider. At first, bystanders think it’s a small parade but soon realize that it’s something entirely different.

Dexter Morgan is at the beach with Brother Sam when he receives a text to report to a crime scene. After crossing the yellow barricade tape, he encounters a bizarre sight. He stares at a palomino horse with a strange rider walking past him. “Jesus Christ,” Dexter quietly states.

Debra Morgan is on scene in her new position as Lieutenant.

Dexter: “What's with the wicked rodeo?”
Debra: “Your guess is as good as mine. Some sick fuck sewed body parts to mannequins and then strapped 'em to horses. I mean, what the fuck?”
Dexter: “Body parts? This spectacle makes me think of…”
Brian, he thought. My brother.
Debra: “Your brother? Rudy the Ice Truck Killer?”
Dexter: “Sorry.”
Debra: “No, it's okay. I was thinking it too. Just the idea that someone would put this much…”
Imagination, Dexter thought.
Debra: “Brutality into killing. Come here. I want to show you something.”
Batista: “Lieutenant.”
Debra: [to Batista] “Hold on a sec.”

Debra leads Dexter to a horse that has the symbol for "Alpha and Omega" on its forehead.

Debra: “Check it out.”
Quinn: “Lieutenant.”
Debra: [to Quinn] “I'm in the middle of something.”
Debra: [to Dexter, pointing to Alpha Omega on horse's forehead] “Remember this?”
Dexter: “Oh, it's the same insignia that was carved into the stomach of the snakes victim. Looks like a signature.”
Debra: “Same sick fuck. Two different killings."
Masuka: “Hey, uh, Lieutenant?”
Debra: [annoyed] “For the love of God, what?”

Debra turns around to see Angel Batista, Joey Quinn, and Vince Masuka awaiting instructions and remembers that she’s now the Lieutenant.

Debra: “Right. One at a time. Go.”
Batista: “Been calling around the local stables. There's one about a mile north from here, reported four horses missing two days ago.”
Debra: “Quinn?”
Quinn: “Mounted patrol's on the way. They'll be here within the hour.”
Masuka: “I've been counting the body parts and typing the blood, and it's all B-positive, so I think we're looking at one victim here.”
Debra: “Jesus. Somebody went to a lot of trouble.”
Dexter: “He's trying to tell us something.”
Quinn: “Yeah. "I'm a crazy piece of shit."

Mike Anderson, the new detective, approaches the group. Unlike the casually dressed others, he’s wearing a suit and tie.

Mike: “He's saying it's the end of the world. Something like that. Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse -- white, red, pale, and black. Doesn't take a genius to figure it out.”
Quinn: “And who are you?”
Debra: “Oh, I'm sorry. This is Mike Anderson from Chicago. He's my replacement. Mike, this is...everyone. You were saying?”
Mike: “The killer's showing us a scene from the Book of Revelation.
A killer with faith?, Dexter thought.
Anderson: [removing his jacket] “Damn, it's hot out here.”
Quinn: [contemptuously] “Yeah. It's Miami, genius.”
Debra: [to Mike] “What about snakes?”
Mike: “What about 'em?”
Debra: “Seven snakes. Any mention of them in the Book of Revelation?”
Mike: “Don't know. I'll look into it.”
Debra: “Do that. In the meantime, you two [Quinn and Batista], go to the stable. See if a surveillance tape will give us a suspect.”
Debra: “Dexter, Masuka, take shots of the horses so we can start taking this shit apart.”
Whoever did this seems to be a member of my tribe, Dexter thought. But this is a horse of a different color.

Later, Masuka confirms that the body parts all belong to the same victim and was identified from fingerprints -- Nathan Roberts.
