Matt Caldwell is missing and he is apparently staying at a hotel in New York City, which his credit card bills seem to indicate, and as his father, Kurt, claims. The audience knows that Dexter has already killed Matt, so his father must be lying, for some reason.
Angela Bishop is fuming that Matt Caldwell is eating five-star room service in New York City while the town has been searching for him in the freezing cold weather. Molly backs Angela's idea of going to the city to confront Matt but Sgt. Logan accuses her of only wanting to salvage her podcast. Angela, though, says it's great timing because there is a Missing Persons conference that she wants to attend. Molly remarks that she can expense the trip.
At the Gramercy Hotel in New York, Molly and Angela ask the front desk clerk to confirm that Matt is a guest. When he says that Matt checked out the night before, Angela asks the clerk for video footage to confirm that Matt was there but the clerk refuses to show it. After some back and forth, Angela successfully threatens to embarrass the hotel by bringing in the police, and the clerk eventually backs down and tells them to come back later that night.
The two women then attend the lecture, delivered by none other than Miami Metro's Angel Batista, as he speaks about "Finding Patterns in Seemingly Unrelated Cases", during which he mentions the Bay Harbor Butcher Case. Angela then meets with Angel, where he discusses the Trinity Killer case, and happens to mention the name Harrison, which alerts Angela to the possibility that Jim Lindsay and his son might not be who they seem to be.
After the conference, the hotel clerk presents the footage to Angela and Molly of "Matt Caldwell" checking out the night before at 11:30 p.m. However, Angela and Molly don't recognize the man. Angela plays it off by telling the clerk, "You're right. There he is. All checked out. Sorry to bother you with this, sir. Thanks so much for your time. Just, uh..." She clicks a photo of the man with her phone. "For my records. Thanks again."
As the two confused women walk away, Molly asks, "Who the fuck was that?" Angela asks, "Why would Kurt lie?"
