Gio Martino Debra's "Bad Boy" Boyfriend

Giorgio Martino is a character in the Showtime series: Dexter: Original Sin.

He is the son of a wealthy man and enjoys a lavish lifestyle, including fast cars and beach side villas. His charm wins over Debra Morgan and the two start dating much to the concern of her father Harry Morgan and he tasks Dexter Morgan with keeping tabs on her new boyfriend.

Background[]

Not much is currently known about Gio's background, but according to the Miami Metro Police Department file that Dexter looks up that Gio had been arrested in the past for public intoxication, petty theft, D.U.I, and speed contest from 1988 to 1990. He appears to come from a wealthy family who "paid for his teeth" (teeth whitening) and his convertible. His business card states that he's in the "Import/Export" business, suggesting that he may deal in expensive vehicles. He seems to run in certain popular circles having a friendly relationship with Miami's middle-weight boxing champion Eladio Ramirez, as he can be seen practicing juking with him on the dance floor as he leaves Debra to attend some important business.

Summary[]

Amidst Debra Morgan's struggles with Tiffany Hendricks after acquiring her role as Captain of their volleyball team, Debra is unable to bring the team to the beach with her father's truck as Harry needed it to get to a crime scene earlier in the day for Jimmy Powell, Jr. After Tiffany shows up in her new jeep she blows off the beach and instead opts to meet up with a dealer named Flip who provides her pot and cocaine, which she's on into that night. As her and her friend Sofia Rivera come down the next day they talk about going to a club called Sapphire Nightclub that Sofia's cousin works at as a bouncer and they agree to head their that night with Deb sporting a tight flower printed dress.

After Sofia splits off to talk with a guy who offered to buy her a drink, Deb throws on an act at a table to get everyone up to party only for her to sit down where they were and start drinking from what they ordered. As she enjoys the alcohol Gio appears for the first time, admiring her courage to steal from a $300.00 bottle of Dom and has a seat next to her. He points out who that bottle belongs to - Eladio Ramirez, Miami's middleweight boxing champion. Deb claims she could take him, before she flirts with him and asks if he wanted to defend her instead. Gio chuckles, saying he'd take a punch for her but the money by his parents into his teeth means he'd rather respect their investment. He checks the time on an expensive golden watch and says he has to get going, asking if she'd like to come with but learns that Deb has a strict "no girl left behind" policy which he respects and instead offers her his card saying to call him sometime. After she asks if he's an accountant or something, he gets up to leave urging her to call sometime. As he heads out he practices juking with Eladio on the dance floor, showing their friendly relationship which impresses Deb as she smiles and continues to drink from the bottle of Dom.

Later the next day as she's recovering from a hangover she wanders into her kitchen and finds a note on the fridge from her father, which she responds to with disgust. Feeling left out yet again from whatever he and her brother have going on she sits down and decides to call up Gio, with his card displaying that he's in the Import/Export business. Gio rolls up to the house in a convertible blue Corvette that looks to be fresh off a show-floor in quality, which amazes Deb as he opens the door for her to get in. While they're driving she notes a five disc CD player and a car-phone, which in 1991 would be a luxury for anyone. She asks if she can test it out which Gio is fine with and she calls her Dad's phone, leaving a voicemail where she lies about spending the night at Sofia's and that she'll see him after school. Gio reacts to the word, with Deb turning to look at him as he mentions it and asks if that's a problem. He takes a moment, smiles and says no problem at all as she keeps her eyes on him. Deb asks how fast can this thing go and Gio says they'll have to find out as he hits the gas and she lets out an excited scream as they cruise down the Miami roadway.

He takes her to an apartment building overlooking the Miami bay, where he pours her a drink and the two of them overlook the view. She asks what he really does and he says that he works for his father, to which she asks what he does and Gio remarks that "he drives me crazy.". She connects with this relating to her father and brother being involved in work together saying they "can't fucking get enough of each other". Gio takes this opportunity to hit on her saying "Good. I'd rather have you all to myself", to which Deb chuckles about how he must be proud of that one and he asks if it worked, to which she says it's "just sleazy enough" before moving in and they embrace in a kiss.
