Marelli's case is handled by Sergeant Doakes, with the aid of Dexter Morgan who is in charge of the blood spatter analysis. Dexter discovers how Marelli's victim was killed, but also that Marelli may not be responsible for the murder.

- In Robert's notebook, one of the thing he wrote before his murder reads "How does this bond? Ask Mr. White!!!". 'Mr. White' is a direct reference to Walter White from the AMC TV show Breaking Bad.
