Rusty K-9 Officer

Rusty is a character in the Showtime special event series Dexter: New Blood.

He's K-9 police officer who helps search for Matt Caldwell.

Summary[]

"Smoke Signals"

Dexter learns from Angela that a search dog team is arriving the next day to search for Matt Caldwell. It worries him but he doesn't let it show.

Deb: "Search dogs? Jesus fuck, Dex."
Dexter: "I know."
Deb: "You have to move Matt's body. Those dogs are gonna walk a straight line from the crime scene - to your fucking firepit."
Dexter: "I know."
Deb: "It's not just about you anymore."
Dexter: "I know!"
Deb: "Do you?" [holds a gun to his head]
Dexter: "It was a one-time slipup. It doesn't change who I am."
Deb: "Who is that, exactly?"
Dexter: "Stop."
Deb: "Or what? You gonna kill me again? Or are other people gonna die? Because that's what always happens, right? Right?!"
Dexter: "Not this time. No."

While Harrison is asleep, Dexter slips out, digs up Matt's remains, and takes his orange vest. After reburying Matt, Dexter heads to the spot where the white deer was shot. Using that as a starting point, he drags the vest through the woods up to the highway where Matt's glove was found. While there, a truck passes by. First the glove, now the scent. One plus one equals... Matt. On his way back, Dexter hears a gunshot in the distance, but believes it's just an early hunter.

When Dexter enters his cabin, he finds Harrison eating breakfast. Harrison remarks, "Looks like you had a long night" and Dexter lies that one of Mrs. Gross's sheep was lambing and needed his help.

As Dexter is taking Harrison to school, he notices the K-9 unit, Great. Police dogs. I hope they have as much fun running around the woods as I did last night.

Several K-9s and their handlers arrive at the crime scene. Angela thanks Rusty for making it out on short notice and he says that nobody plans on going missing.

Teddy is startled when he bends down to Rusty's dog and it barks at him. Sternly, Rusty orders, "Yo! Yo, yo, yo. No touching. They don't need no confusion with your petting."

Angela hands a glove to Rusty and says, "This is Matt's. Let's bring him home." Rusty lets the dogs smell the glove, then instructs them to find Matt. The dogs run off into the woods, barking.
