DEXTER: ORIGINAL SIN is a Showtime television series. It is the second spin-off to follow the original series DEXTER, with the opening taking place directly after the conclusion of the first spinoff Dexter: New Blood and the remainder serving as a prequel to the original series. The series is narrated by a modern Dexter Morgan, who recounts his early years as a killer following a near death experience in the finale of New Blood.
Development[]
A prequel of Dexter, various series had previously been in development, with this 10 episode prequel series being officially announced by Paramount+ and Showtime on May 23, 2024.[1] The show began filming in Miami, Florida on June 5th. Shooting was completed by June 15, as they plan to primarily film exterior scenes that need to look authentically like Miami. Afterwards, production moved to Los Angeles to film the rest of the season.
It follows a young Dexter Morgan on his transition into an avenging serial killer. The Dexter prequel debuted on Sunday, December 15, on the Paramount+ with Showtime cable network. Fans can stream the episode two days earlier, starting Friday, December 13th. The episodes will air on Sundays, just like all eight seasons of the original series and Dexter: New Blood.
Just like many modern TV shows, the Dexter prequel airs in the 18:9 aspect ratio. For those unfamiliar, the 18:9 aspect ratio refers to the proportion of a screen's width to its height, creating a more elongated or "widescreen" format compared to the traditional 16:9 ratio used by most HDTVs and monitors. This format (sometimes expressed as 2:1) is often seen in modern smartphones and some streaming content, offering a more immersive viewing experience. It provides more vertical screen space and is particularly suited for cinematic content, mimicking the ultra-wide formats used in many films, thus reducing letterboxing (black bars at the top and bottom).
Dexter: Original Sin is based on the Dexter Novels by Jeff Lindsay.
On April 1, 2025, the series was renewed for a second season, with a writers room set to begin shortly, with production dates to be revealed soon.[2]
Air Dates[]
Available to Stream on Paramount+ with Showtime: Episodes were available for streaming at 12:01 a.m. EST on Fridays, starting December 13. Please note that, as with many streaming platforms, it may take up to 30 minutes for new episodes to become available for all users.
In the United States, the series also airs weekly on Sundays, starting December 15 on Showtime.
Summary[]
