Deputy (County Jail:

Deputy (County Jail: Custodian

Deputy (County Jail) is a character in Season Three of the Showtime series DEXTER.

He escorts Ramon Prado to an interview room to meet with Dexter Morgan.

Summary[]

Ramon, desperate for someone to blame for the murder of his brothers, shows up in a drunken rage at Dexter and Rita's wedding rehearsal dinner. He ignores Dexter's calm attempts at discussion and jams a pistol in Dexter's face. Before he can go further, Ramon is arrested by Angel Batista and Debra Morgan.

Since Ramon doesn’t meet the Code of Harry, Dexter plots to frame Ramon for Ellen Wolf’s murder. He pays a visit to the County Jail and waits in the interview room until Ramon is brought in by two deputies. Ramon sits down at a table and the deputies handcuff him to a chair.

Deputy: (to Dexter) “By the book, Mr. Morgan.”
Deputy: (to Ramon) “If you need us, we're right outside, Lieutenant.”

The deputies leave Dexter alone with Ramon, although they watch them through a window in the door.

Ramon, still simmering with anger, tells Dexter that Miguel took him on as a bodyguard to protect him [from Dexter]. When Dexter accuses Miguel of being paranoid, Ramon tries to deny it.

Dexter: "That's true. You know it as well as I do. Look, I spent a lot of time with your brother, but it wasn't 24/7. I don't know what he was up to when I wasn't around. Neither does Syl, neither do you. What I do know is this. You got a really ugly history. Kidnapping, brutality, abuse. You trashed my apartment. You followed me. You put a gun in my face in front of my friends, in front of my pregnant fiancee. Why, Ramon? What's your endgame?"
Ramon: "To hurt you. Until you came into our life, everything was fine."
Dexter: "Fine like what? Like Oscar's drug problem? Like Miguel's... darkness?"
Ramon: "What do you know about that?"
Dexter: "We were close, Miguel and I. He told me things. He told me how he pushed your father down the stairs to protect Oscar and you. And that he enjoyed it."
Ramon: "He fucking told you that? It was me that did that to our father. Miguel took it from me, made it his story. Part of his god damn legend."
Dexter: "Miguel always had to be the star."
Ramon: "He got the looks, the charm, maybe even the brains, but I got the strength. I spent my whole life trying to hold it together, and now it's all gone to shit."
Dexter: "It doesn't have to."
Ramon: "Bullshit. Those cases you're talking about, the kidnapping, the brutality... that was me sweeping up after Miguel's fuck-ups. He wasn't making my problems go away. I was risking my ass to cover his."
Dexter: "Hey, I know the frustration, the disappointment of wanting to help your brother and not being able to."

Dexter asks Ramon if he knows where his son and daughter are at that moment, and if they know where their father is.

Dexter: “Someday your kids will be old enough to see the truth for themselves, just like you did with your father. I know. I've been there. The sins of the father go on and on, from kid to kid to kid, unless someone -- you -- chooses to end them. I've been there too.”

Ramon sighs and his anger dissipates toward Dexter. As one last favor from his famous brother, Ramon is released from jail in a matter of days. Dexter abandons his plan to frame him.
