Delancey

Delancey is a location in Season Five of the Showtime series DEXTER.

It’s an Italian restaurant where Dexter Morgan and Rita Bennett meet on a blind date.

“My Bad”

After Rita’s death, Dexter thinks about the first time that he deceived her.

[Flashbacks]

Dexter is already in a restaurant when Rita arrives and introduces herself. He chose this particular place because he is stalking Marcetti, a guy sitting at another table.

Rita: “Dexter Morgan?”
Dexter: “Rita? Hi.”
Rita: “Hi. Sorry I'm late.”
Dexter: “That's no problem.”
Rita: “There was traffic, of course. I went to the wrong cafe. I went to the one in town. I didn't know there was anything even out this far. How did you find this place?”
Dexter: “I, uh... tracked it down.”

The smiling waitress delivers menus and, despite Dexter being distracted by Marcetti, the date is going well.

Rita: “So I -- your sister... Debra's told me so much about you.”
Dexter: “Uh-oh.“
Rita: “Oh. Nothing bad, of course.”
Dexter: [joking] “She omitted the fact that I'm an ax murderer?”
Rita: “No. She said that you were a... bloodstain pattern analyst... which I have no clue what that is.”
Dexter: [joking] “Believe me, I barely do either, and I do it forty hours a week.”
Rita: “She seems nice, your sister.”
Dexter: “You seem nice too.”
Rita: [smiling] “Thank you. So, um, what's good here? I mean, there must be something special to bring you all the way out this far. I... I usually play it safe and go with a Caesar salad. But I don't see one on here. You know, I think I'm gonna get the Special, the mushroom ravioli.” [Dexter doesn’t answer as he’s watching Marcetti.] “Dexter? Do you know what you want?”
Dexter: [thinking of Marcetti] “Yes, I do.”

The waitress returns with their drinks.

Waitress: [to Dexter, referring to Rita] “I was wondering what you were doing sitting here by yourself for so long. Now I see.”
Rita: [to Dexter] “I paid her to say that.”
Dexter: “You did?”
Rita: “No, I was... just kidding.”
Dexter: “Me too.”
Rita: “So what does a... blood spatter analyst do anyway?”

Suddenly, Marcetti stands up, pays for his meal, and leaves the restaurant. Dexter abruptly excuses himself and follows him out. He pulls on a pair of gloves and confronts Marcetti in the restaurant's parking lot. They struggle a bit, but Dexter sticks a needle in his neck, and tosses his unconscious body into the trunk of his car.

Back inside the restaurant, he awkwardly makes an excuse to Rita.

Dexter: “I have to go.”
Rita: “Uh, is everything okay?”
Dexter: “It's a stomach bug. It's going around the station. I'm really sorry.”
Rita: [to a departing Dexter] “It was nice meeting you...”

Later, while Dexter is on the Slice of Life disposing of Marcetti’s remains, he receives a phone call from a concerned Rita. After a few minutes of conversation, they agree to have another date.
