Summary[]
Dexter stalks former boxer, Benito Gomez, at Tito's Bar. Then, he finds a deserted boxing gym with an expired license in which to kill him.
Dexter: “Shut down for decades. Way out of town. I’m liking this. Broken-down boxer, broken-down arena. A fitting place for a punk like Benny Gomez to go down for the count.”
Dexter sets up a plastic-lined kill room, using the boxing ring in the center of the gym as the focal point. He returns To Tito's Bar to capture Benny, but he falls asleep in his car, which leads to an unpleasant encounter with a police officer.
The next night, instead of returning to the bar, Dexter creeps into Benny’s trailer park and injects him with M99 when he answers the door.
Back at the gym, Dexter almost falls asleep while waiting for the M99 to wear off on Benny. To speed things up, Dexter holds smelling salts under Benny’s nose and he instantly opens his eyes. Scared and confused, Benny finds himself wrapped in plastic on a table, surrounded by photos of his own victims. He recognizes Dexter from court, but only has time to say, "I know you..." before Dexter stuffs a cotton cloth into his mouth. Dexter tells Benny that he’s the “Blood Guy” and slices his cheek for a blood slide.
As Dexter wonders if he can still lead a double life now that he’s married, Rita calls his cell phone. Dexter covers Benny’s mouth with his hand to keep him quiet. Rita says that baby Harrison has an ear infection and she needs Dexter to immediately pick up medication. Having to cut his kill ritual short, Dexter stabs Benny in the heart and quickly dismembers him, though he doesn’t have time to dispose of the body.
While returning home with the medicine, Dexter falls asleep at the wheel and rolls his car.
The car accident results in Dexter having partial amnesia and he forgets what he did with Benny's body. On a desperate search, he checks his wrecked car at the auto tow yard, but only recovers his kill tools. Guessing that the bags were thrown from his car, Dexter returns to the crash site, but he only finds Harrison’s teddy bear laying on the ground.
After finishing up at a work-related crime scene, Dexter is back at the gym. He notices a drop of blood on the ring canvas and cleans it up, vexed at his carelessness. Then he thoroughly searches the arena, including the lockers, but finds nothing. He decides to retrace his steps and drives to the pharmacy where climbs into a dumpster. Again, he strikes out. Back at work, he checks the day’s incident reports to see if Benny’s body has surfaced. It hasn’t.
Dexter returns to the gym to see if he missed anything. While he’s there, Frank Lundy calls, wanting to talk about Trinity and toss around a few ideas. He assures Dexter that Trinity will kill another woman older than Lisa Bell very soon.
Dexter notices a blood spot on the boxing mat, identical to the one he cleaned up. Blood is dripping from above. Looking up, Dexter realizes that he had stashed Benny’s dismembered body inside a punching bag and suspended it above the ring. He lowers the bag, hugs it, and says, “Hello, Benny.”
As Dexter dumps Benny into the ocean from the Slice of Life, he says, “Goodbye, Benny.”
