Damian Church is a character in the Showtime special event series Dexter: New Blood

He's an out-of-town crime scene investigator who helps the Iron Lake police after Matt Caldwell went missing.

Angela is relieved when Damian arrives, hoping they’ll get some answers. As he is unloading his van, Damian drops his forensic equipment and swears. Jim (Dexter) offers to help and Damian thanks him. Dexter asks if he can watch him work the scene because he’s a “big fan of those CSI shows.” Kurt says he’s also coming since it’s his son they are looking for. Damian insists, “As long as you both stay outside the crime scene and don't disturb the corpus delicti.” Teddy asks what that means and Damian explains that it's Latin for "body of evidence.” He again drops his supplies.

At the scene, Damian takes photos while Dexter notes the location of the thermal image camera. Then Damian collects samples of the snow, describing how some of the blood coagulated differently than the rest, so he will test it to see if it came from the deer or if it's human. Dexter thinks, Exactly what I would've done. Damian confirms that the blood is human and says someone may have mixed it in with the deer's blood so it would be overlooked. Dexter realizes that Damian is good at his job.

Angela tells Kurt that it might not be Matt’s blood and it could be from the other guy that was out there. Kurt asks if somebody attacked Matt because of that “stupid deer” and he fought him off. Angela says it’s possible. Dexter suggests that Matt cut himself dressing the deer.

Angela asks Damian what happened, and Dexter hopes that Damian will fail him. However, Damian accurately describes what happened: “The victim came from over there.” [flashbacks of Matt] “The attacker from over there. Judging by the pool of blood, they met up right around here, where the deer was shot. There was some sort of... altercation. The attacker overpowered the victim. Knocked him down. The victim then fell... backwards... hitting his head right about... Huh. There was a rock here. Must've been removed after the attack. I suspect it caused a head injury.” He chuckles and says that somebody tried to cover it up. Dexter feels that he’s gotten rusty in his abstinence.

Kurt asks how they are going to find the “son of a bitch” that did this to his son. Angel says they still don’t know whose blood it is and they first need to establish that. Damian agrees. Though a bit reluctant, Kurt lets Damian collect a cheek swab to do a familial DNA test to see if he’s a match to the human blood, which will confirm that it’s Matt's blood.
